# Kosh vs your bank app's spending insights

Canada's big banks have added spending insights to their apps, and RBC's NOMI is a well-known example. They're free and built in. Here's what they're good at, and where an AI CFO working across all your accounts adds something.

**In short**

- Bank-app insights are free, automatic and good at the basics: categorizing spending, flagging unusual activity and, in RBC's case, moving spare cash to savings if you opt in.
- They're built around accounts at that bank. Your card from another issuer, a TFSA elsewhere and your workplace plan generally aren't part of the picture.
- Kosh reads statements from every bank and card you use, estimates your federal and provincial tax and plans RRSP, TFSA and FHSA contributions.
- If all your money is at one bank and you just want to watch spending, your bank's app may be enough.

## What bank-app insights do well

RBC's NOMI Insights, inside the RBC Mobile app, categorizes your spending, helps you keep track of it and flags unusual activity. NOMI Find & Save, which you opt into, looks for spare cash in your account and moves it to savings. Other banks have added their own spending features; check your bank's app to see what it offers.

The appeal is obvious: it's free, already on your phone and needs no setup. For someone with one bank and one card, that's a lot of value.

## What they can't see

- **Other institutions.** If your credit card is from a different bank, or your TFSA is at an online brokerage, your bank's insights generally don't include it.
- **Your tax.** Spending insights don't estimate your federal and provincial tax, your marginal rate or what an RRSP contribution would save. See [marginal vs average tax rate](/learn/marginal-vs-average-tax-rate).
- **The order to save in.** Whether to fill an FHSA, TFSA or RRSP first depends on your income and plans, not on what one bank offers.
- **Fees, read critically.** A monthly account fee is easy to miss in a summary of where your money went. Our [fee audit guide](/learn/subscription-and-bank-fee-audit) walks through how to find them.

## What Kosh adds

Kosh is an [AI CFO](/learn/what-is-an-ai-cfo). You upload statements from every bank and card you use, and it builds one picture: income, fixed costs, spending, debt and savings across all of them. Then it works on the three jobs most people care about: saving money (fees, subscriptions, interest), saving on taxes (RRSP, FHSA, deductions and credits) and growing your wealth (which registered room to use, and what to do with idle cash).

Kosh earns only from subscriptions. It doesn't sell accounts, cards or investments, and it doesn't recommend specific securities.

## Do you need both?

Keep using your bank's alerts; they're free and quick. Add Kosh if your money is spread across more than one institution, or if you want tax and savings planning on top of spending insights.

**Where Kosh fits**

Kosh works across banks, from statements you upload. It never asks for bank logins and can't move money, so it's a planner, not another account.

Is Kosh free like bank insights?

Kosh Starter is free with one statement a month, a money summary, a top recommendation and 10 questions a month. Kosh Pro is CA$19 a month or CA$179 a year after a 7-day free trial.

Does Kosh move money like Find & Save?
