**In short**

- ET Money is built for investing: direct mutual funds, a paid advisory service called Genius, NPS, FDs, loans against funds and insurance.
- Its operating company is a SEBI-registered investment adviser, so it can give personalised investment advice. Kosh is not, and doesn't.
- Kosh is built for spending, leaks, tax under both regimes and goal plans, all from your own bank and card statements.
- Kosh can't move money or execute trades; ET Money is where you'd actually invest.
- If you want advice on a portfolio, look at ET Money or a fee-only adviser. If you want your everyday money sorted, look at Kosh.

## Different tools for different jobs

ET Money and Kosh both want to make your money easier, but they start from opposite ends. ET Money starts from **investments**: where to put money and how to keep a portfolio on track. Kosh starts from **cash flow**: your salary, rent, EMIs, card bills and tax, and what's left to invest.

## What ET Money is built for

ET Money's [website](https://www.etmoney.com/) lists direct mutual funds, Genius (a membership with mutual fund and stock portfolios matched to your risk profile), NPS, fixed deposits, loans against mutual funds, term and health insurance, and a Tax Saving Maximizer. Its footer names Banayantree Services Limited as a non-individual SEBI-registered investment adviser, registration INA100006898.

ET Money began at Times Internet. In June 2024, 360 ONE WAM [agreed to acquire it](https://techcrunch.com/2024/06/12/indias-360-one-acquires-mutual-fund-app-et-money-for-44m), and ET Money's site now lists its registered address at 360 ONE's Mumbai office.

**Why the licence matters**

A SEBI-registered investment adviser can recommend specific funds and portfolios to you, under SEBI's rules on fees and conflicts. Kosh is not registered and never recommends specific securities. If personalised investment advice is what you need, that's a real reason to choose a registered adviser.

## What Kosh is built for

Kosh reads your bank, credit card and investment statements, sorts every transaction and maps your income, spending, debt and savings. It then does the jobs that sit around investing:

- Works out your income tax under both regimes from your real salary, rent and investments. See [how to save tax on salary](/learn/how-to-save-tax-on-salary).
- Finds leaks: forgotten subscriptions, card interest, food-delivery creep and cash idling in a savings account.
- Turns goals into monthly SIP amounts, explains fund categories, and reminds you before card due dates, SIPs, renewals and tax deadlines.
- Answers questions in chat with your own numbers, such as how much you can invest each month after your EMIs.

## How each one earns money

Kosh earns only from subscriptions and takes no commissions from banks, fund houses or insurers. ET Money offers direct plans of mutual funds, which carry no distributor commission, and charges for Genius, its advisory membership. It also offers FDs, loans against mutual funds and insurance alongside partners. Check each product's terms in the app.

## Direct plans, and why the label matters

Every mutual fund scheme comes in a **direct** plan and a **regular** plan. The regular plan pays a commission to the distributor who sold it, built into a higher expense ratio. The direct plan has no distributor commission, so its expense ratio is lower. Over 15 or 20 years that gap compounds. Whichever platform you use, check which plan you hold. Kosh reads your CAS and shows each holding, so you can see the plan type at a glance.

How funds are taxed matters as much as what they cost. Our [capital gains guide](/learn/capital-gains-tax-on-shares-and-mutual-funds) explains the rules for equity and debt funds.

## Who should use which

- **Choose ET Money** if you want to invest in direct mutual funds or NPS from one app, or want paid, personalised portfolio advice from a registered adviser.
- **Choose Kosh** if you don't yet know how much you can invest, which tax regime suits you, or why your card bill keeps surprising you.
- **Use both** if you invest on ET Money and want Kosh to plan around it. Kosh reads your CAMS or NSDL CAS, so it sees your funds without needing ET Money's login.

## Frequently asked questions

Is Kosh an alternative to ET Money?

For some jobs. ET Money is where you invest in mutual funds and can pay for registered investment advice. Kosh plans your spending, tax and goals from your statements and cannot invest for you. Many people use both.

Is ET Money a SEBI-registered investment adviser?

Its website footer names Banayantree Services Limited as a non-individual SEBI-registered investment adviser, registration INA100006898. You can check any registration on SEBI's website.

Who owns ET Money?

ET Money started at Times Internet. 360 ONE WAM announced in June 2024 that it would acquire ET Money, and ET Money's website now lists its registered address at 360 ONE's Mumbai office.

Does Kosh give investment advice like ET Money Genius?

No. Kosh is not a SEBI-registered investment adviser. It explains categories such as index funds and PPF and works out monthly amounts for your goals, but it never recommends specific funds or stocks.

Can Kosh see the mutual funds I hold on ET Money?

Yes, if you upload your CAMS or NSDL consolidated account statement. Kosh reads the statement directly and never asks for your ET Money login.
