Kosh for salaried professionals

# A personal finance app for salaried employees that does the thinking

Your salary arrives on the 1st and is mostly gone by the 20th, and every April you guess at a tax regime. Kosh reads your statements and payslip numbers and turns them into a plan with one clear next step.

## What gets in the way

### The regime guess every April

HR wants your old or new regime choice for TDS before you've worked out which is cheaper. Most people pick the default and never check whether HRA, 80C and a home loan would have made the old one better.

### Proofs season in January

Rent receipts, 80C proofs and the insurance premium all land on the same deadline. Miss it and extra TDS comes out of your February and March salary, to be reclaimed months later as a refund.

### Form 16 doesn't match AIS

FD interest, dividends or a second employer's salary show up in your AIS but not in Form 16. Filing on Form 16 alone invites a mismatch notice.

### The card bill that keeps surprising you

Two cards, a no-cost EMI and a dozen auto-debits. The total is never what you expected, and you only notice the interest when you've rolled over a month.

### Switching jobs mid-year

Each employer deducts TDS as if it were your only salary, so both give you the low slabs. The gap shows up as tax due when you file in July.

## What Kosh does about it

### Maps a month in minutes

Upload your salary account and card statements. Kosh sorts every transaction into rent, EMIs, SIPs, delivery, subscriptions and transfers, and shows where the salary goes.

### Compares both regimes with your numbers

Kosh works out your income tax under the old and new regimes from your real salary, rent and investments, and tells you which leaves you more.

### Finds the leaks

Forgotten subscriptions, card interest, delivery creep and cash idling in a savings account, each with the rupee amount attached.

### Turns goals into SIP amounts

A home down payment, a car or retirement, each converted into a monthly amount you can check against what you actually save.

### Reminds before money is due

Email reminders before card due dates, SIP dates, renewals and tax deadlines, plus a Sunday digest of the week's money.

### Answers with your own figures

Ask the chat CFO whether you can afford a INR 40,000 EMI, and it answers from last quarter's spending, not a rule of thumb.

## Pick the regime from your numbers, not a rule of thumb

For FY 2026-27 the new regime is the default. It has a **INR 75,000 standard deduction** and a rebate that makes taxable income up to **INR 12 lakh** tax-free, so a salary of up to INR 12.75 lakh with no other income pays nothing. Just above that, marginal relief keeps the jump small: a INR 13 lakh salary pays INR 26,000.

The old regime only wins when your deductions are large. Take an INR 18 lakh salary in Bengaluru with INR 7.2 lakh basic, INR 2.88 lakh HRA, INR 30,000 a month rent, a full INR 1.5 lakh under 80C, INR 50,000 in NPS under 80CCD(1B) and INR 25,000 of health cover. The old regime brings taxable income down to INR 12.37 lakh, yet tax is still INR 1,90,944 against INR 1,50,800 in the new regime. Run your own case in the [old vs new regime calculator](/tools/old-vs-new-tax-regime-calculator) before you tell HR, and read the [regime guide](/learn/old-vs-new-tax-regime-fy-2026-27) if you're near the line.

## A salaried year, month by month

- **April:** declare your regime and expected investments to HR. Start or step up SIPs with the new salary.
- **June to July:** download AIS and Form 26AS, match them with Form 16, and file by 31 July. See [how to file ITR as a salaried employee](/learn/how-to-file-itr-salaried).
- **September to December:** check that bonus and arrears haven't pushed your TDS short. The [tax on bonus calculator](/tools/tax-on-bonus-calculator) shows the extra.
- **January to March:** submit rent receipts and proofs. Old-regime filers have until 31 March for the year's tax-saving investments.

## Read your AIS before you file

Form 16 only shows what your employer paid and deducted. Your **Annual Information Statement** on the income tax portal also lists savings and FD interest, dividends, mutual fund redemptions and anything another employer reported. The department matches your return against it, so anything in AIS that's missing from your return can lead to a notice.

Two cases catch salaried people most often. First, **FD interest**: banks deduct 10% TDS only above INR 50,000 of interest a year, but the whole amount is taxable at your slab rate, so a 30% taxpayer owes the difference. The [tax on FD interest calculator](/tools/tax-on-fd-interest-calculator) shows it. Second, **a job switch**: if you didn't give your new employer your earlier salary and TDS, both deducted tax as if each salary were your only one, and the shortfall is due when you file. Add the two Form 16s together in the [income tax calculator](/tools/income-tax-calculator) before July, not after. If you find a mistake after filing, a revised return can be filed up to 31 March.

## Fix the monthly leak before the yearly plan

A tax saving of INR 20,000 a year is easy to undo with INR 2,000 a month of card interest or forgotten subscriptions. Read your last two card statements line by line, or use the [subscription cost calculator](/tools/subscription-cost-calculator) to see what the auto-debits add up to over a year. Then build a three-to-six-month [emergency fund](/learn/how-much-emergency-fund-do-i-need) before chasing returns.

## Frequently asked questions

What is the best personal finance app for salaried employees in India?

Look for one that works from your real statements, compares both tax regimes, finds leaks and plans goals, without asking for bank logins or selling you products. Kosh does this as an AI CFO and earns only from subscriptions, not commissions.

Is the new tax regime better for salaried employees in FY 2026-27?

For most people, yes. With the INR 75,000 standard deduction and the rebate up to INR 12 lakh of taxable income, a salary up to INR 12.75 lakh pays no tax. The old regime can still win if your HRA, 80C, NPS, health cover and home-loan interest together are large, so compare both with your own numbers.

Does Kosh need my net-banking password?

No. You upload statements as PDF, CSV or photo, and locked PDFs are opened in your browser, so the password never leaves your device. Kosh never asks for bank logins, OTPs or card numbers and cannot move money.

Can Kosh file my income tax return?

No. Kosh works out your tax under both regimes and helps you prepare, but it is not a chartered accountant and does not file returns or handle notices. You file on the income tax portal yourself or through a CA.

How much does Kosh cost?

You can start free with one statement a month, a money summary, your top recommendation and 10 questions a month. Pro costs INR 2,000 a month or INR 19,999 a year, starting with a free seven-day trial, and you can cancel anytime.
