## How the 3 LPA in-hand salary works

A 3 LPA package means a cost to company of INR 3 lakh a year. Assuming basic pay at half of CTC (the Labour Codes floor), your employer's 12% PF contribution (INR 18,000) and a gratuity provision of 4.81% of basic (INR 7,215) sit inside that CTC but never reach your account, so your gross salary is INR 2,74,785, or INR 22,899 a month.

From gross, your own 12% PF (INR 18,000 a year) and INR 2,500 of professional tax are deducted; income tax is nil in the new regime. That leaves INR 2,54,285 a year, about INR 21,190 a month: 85% of your CTC.

Tax is zero because your taxable income after the INR 75,000 standard deduction is INR 1,99,785, under the INR 4 lakh that the new regime doesn't tax at all. The old regime is also nil at this salary, so the regime choice doesn't change your in-hand pay.

In-hand = CTC − employer PF − gratuity − employee PF − professional tax − income tax

## Worked example: the same 3 LPA with 10% variable pay

Many offers at 3 LPA hold back part of the package as performance pay. With 10% variable (INR 30,000), basic is calculated on the fixed part, and take-home is INR 19,051 a month before the bonus, or INR 21,551 averaged over the year if it's paid in full.

## Good to know

- Your basic (INR 12,500 a month) is at or under the INR 15,000 PF wage ceiling, so PF is the same whichever way your employer calculates it.
- If 10% of the package is variable pay, fixed take-home drops to about INR 19,051 a month; the bonus arrives separately, taxed, when it's paid.
- In Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states without professional tax, add INR 208 a month.
- Your PF isn't lost: both shares (INR 36,000 a year) build up in your EPF account at 8.25% (FY 2025-26 rate).
