## How the 30 LPA in-hand salary works

A 30 LPA package means a cost to company of INR 30 lakh a year. Assuming basic pay at half of CTC (the Labour Codes floor), your employer's 12% PF contribution (INR 1,80,000) and a gratuity provision of 4.81% of basic (INR 72,150) sit inside that CTC but never reach your account, so your gross salary is INR 27,47,850, or INR 2,28,988 a month.

From gross, your own 12% PF (INR 1,80,000 a year) and INR 2,500 of professional tax are deducted, along with INR 3,97,129 of income tax in the new regime. That leaves INR 21,68,221 a year, about INR 1,80,685 a month: 72% of your CTC.

Your taxable income after the INR 75,000 standard deduction is INR 26,72,850, which reaches the 30% slab, and tax works out to INR 3,97,129 a year in the new regime (INR 33,094 a month of TDS). In the old regime, with INR 1.5 lakh of 80C, it's INR 5,99,149.

The old regime only beats the new one if your total old-regime deductions (80C including your PF, HRA, 80D health insurance, home-loan interest) come to more than INR 8,00,000 a year. Your PF alone counts for INR 1,50,000 of that.

Compared with 25 LPA (INR 1,56,126 a month), the extra INR 5 lakh of CTC adds INR 24,560 a month to take-home, INR 4,912 for each lakh; the rest goes to PF, gratuity and INR 1,33,261 more tax.

In-hand = CTC − employer PF − gratuity − employee PF − professional tax − income tax

## Worked example: the same 30 LPA with 10% variable pay

Many offers at 30 LPA hold back part of the package as performance pay. With 10% variable (INR 3,00,000), basic is calculated on the fixed part, and take-home is INR 1,62,282 a month before the bonus, or INR 1,83,631 averaged over the year if it's paid in full.

## Good to know

- If your employer calculates PF on the INR 15,000 statutory wage ceiling instead of full basic, take-home rises by INR 22,282 a month to INR 2,02,967, at the cost of slower EPF savings.
- If 10% of the package is variable pay, fixed take-home drops to about INR 1,62,282 a month; the bonus arrives separately, taxed, when it's paid.
- In Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states without professional tax, add INR 208 a month.
- Ask for employer NPS at 14% of basic: it's deductible even in the new regime and would cut your tax by about INR 65,520 a year.
