## How the 6 LPA in-hand salary works

A 6 LPA package means a cost to company of INR 6 lakh a year. Assuming basic pay at half of CTC (the Labour Codes floor), your employer's 12% PF contribution (INR 36,000) and a gratuity provision of 4.81% of basic (INR 14,430) sit inside that CTC but never reach your account, so your gross salary is INR 5,49,570, or INR 45,798 a month.

From gross, your own 12% PF (INR 36,000 a year) and INR 2,500 of professional tax are deducted; income tax is nil in the new regime. That leaves INR 5,11,070 a year, about INR 42,589 a month: 85% of your CTC.

Tax is zero because your taxable income after the INR 75,000 standard deduction is INR 4,74,570, and the section 87A rebate cancels the INR 3,729 of slab tax on it (the rebate covers taxable income up to INR 12 lakh). The old regime is also nil at this salary, so the regime choice doesn't change your in-hand pay.

Compared with 5 LPA (INR 35,456 a month), the extra INR 1 lakh of CTC adds INR 7,133 a month to take-home, INR 7,133 for each lakh; the rest goes to PF and gratuity.

In-hand = CTC − employer PF − gratuity − employee PF − professional tax − income tax

## Worked example: the same 6 LPA with 10% variable pay

Many offers at 6 LPA hold back part of the package as performance pay. With 10% variable (INR 60,000), basic is calculated on the fixed part, and take-home is INR 38,309 a month before the bonus, or INR 43,309 averaged over the year if it's paid in full.

## Good to know

- If your employer calculates PF on the INR 15,000 statutory wage ceiling instead of full basic, take-home rises by INR 2,400 a month to INR 44,989, at the cost of slower EPF savings.
- If 10% of the package is variable pay, fixed take-home drops to about INR 38,309 a month; the bonus arrives separately, taxed, when it's paid.
- In Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and other states without professional tax, add INR 208 a month.
- Your PF isn't lost: both shares (INR 72,000 a year) build up in your EPF account at 8.25% (FY 2025-26 rate).
