## How the salary hike calculator works

Enter your current annual salary and the hike percentage. The calculator works out the new salary and the income tax on both, using the regime you pick, and reports the difference.

Because the raise sits on top of your existing income, it's taxed at your highest slab. In the new regime that's 15% to 30% (plus cess) for most salaried people above INR 12.75 lakh, so you typically keep 70% to 85% of a raise.

PF also rises if your basic goes up, which lowers the in-hand increase slightly but adds to your retirement savings. Use the in-hand salary calculator for the full picture with PF and professional tax.

## Worked example: Rohan's 15% hike on INR 14 lakh

Rohan's INR 14 lakh salary rises 15% to INR 16.1 lakh, a raise of INR 2.1 lakh. His tax goes up by INR 32,760, so he keeps INR 1,77,240, about 84% of the raise. That's INR 14,770 more a month.

Extra take-home a month

## Good to know

- Compare offers by in-hand pay, not CTC: a bigger variable component or a different PF policy can swamp the headline number.
- Inflation erodes a raise too: a 6% hike in a 6% inflation year leaves your real pay flat.
- If a hike crosses INR 12.75 lakh in the new regime, the jump from zero tax can eat a large part of the first increment.

## Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my salary after a hike?

New salary = current salary x (1 + hike% / 100). A 12% hike on INR 10 lakh gives INR 11.2 lakh. Your take-home rises by less because of tax and PF.

What is a good salary hike in India?

Surveys put average increments in India at around 9% to 10% in recent years. Job switches typically bring 20% to 40%.

Does a hike change my tax regime choice?

It can. A higher salary raises the deductions the old regime needs to win; check both regimes after a big hike.
